THE DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
OF JOHN O’LOUGHLIN
______________
INTRODUCTION
I first became
interested in taking photos of external objects in 2008, when I had come into
possession of a SonyEricsson 600i mobile phone, and since then the interest has
grown to include those taken, more recently, with a SonyEricsson W980, which
has twice the pixels (3.5) of the previous phone, though the pixel specification
isn’t something I put too much store by since I prefer to work with small-scale
photos and regard the results, correctly, as peripheral to my literature,
particularly to the philosophy, and no more than a further string in the bow of
my multimedia output. Still, there are some good snaps, and only a camera snob
or a thoroughgoing professional would find fault with this easy-going approach
to photography – one that, to some extent, also equals my approach to art and music, though I avoid carelessness and still endeavour to do my best within a
context that, not being solely camera-based, suits my multimedia predilections,
since the contemporary mobile phone is nothing if not a multimedia device.
There are a number of
projects I have been working on when I’ve found the time, and they include a
ten-volume project featuring snaps of my home town (Galway, ROI), a series of volumes individually focusing
on towns like Hertford md Welwyn Garden City in the UK, together with a number of north London parks, including Alexandra Park, Enfield Town Park,
and Priory Park, all of which are included on the current website.
