WISHFUL THINKING

A pretty girl I called to mind,

The fairest thing that I could find,

Because the world had turned to pain

As night and sleep came on again.

Her face had come to mind before,

Her body much attraction bore,

But whilst I stripped her clothes away,

I sought in vain to make her stay.

Then as her image disappeared

And mind's conventions interfered,

I heard a voice exclaim: "How long

Before the real thing comes along!"
